Before, or around the same time (circa 1994-1995) I was starting the Classic H50 WWW site, I had an X-Files WWW site. I recently found several VHS tapes I made of bits and pieces relating to the show. Now that I can put video excerpts on my own WWW pages instead of relying on YouTube (who get very cranky if someone complains that a video is copyrighted or whatever), I will be posting a few of these on my XF site, which is http://www.mjq.net/xfiles

PS - Thanks to Todd for continuing the discussion forums!

I picked up the Complete Series blu-Ray release of THE X-FILES, and was very impressed with the upgrade in quality. Definitely makes the show look more modern! However, while the series’ early seasons were shot on film, the VFX were edited on video. Thus, when they struck the new transfers for HD, they easily transferred the 35mm filmed portions to new 1080p resolution transfers, however they couldn’t redo the original video VFX on film in 1080p due to the exorbitant cost of recreating them on film in 1080p, so instead they simply upscaled them from 480i to 1080i by artificially adding the additional lines of resolution. They still look pretty good, and most of the episodes didn’t have huge amounts of VFX.

In any case, I recommend the upgrade if you can get it for $100 or less, or on digital platforms.

So far I have 6 sections done of my X-Files video scraps, the 7th will be worked on shortly. The one after that is a mess. The tape containing excerpts to be used in this section was not made by me. I dunno who sent it to me, that would have been about 20 years ago. It seems to be from WLFL-TV in Raleigh/Durham/Fayetteville in North Carolina. Stuff is not organized particularly well, some material runs into other clips, and it looks like some things were recorded over.

I also have 2 tapes from Australia (both of which are NTSC), they are a mess too. I will actually have to watch them (ugh) to see what is duplicated between them and what is not.
