Thread: Jerome Coopersmith RIP

  1. #1
Prolific Five-O writer Jerome Coopersmith passed away July 21st, aged 97. In addition to his 32 scripts for the series, he also wrote an ultimately unproduced script for one of those "reunion" TV movies that were popular in the late 70's, early '80's (The Return of Hawaii Five-O).

Thank you for posting this - saw that name so many times in the credits

Wow, I could have sworn he died some time ago. I thought I read his obituary years ago.

Definitely the best writer on Five-O, along with John D.F. Black.

Here's an interview with Coopersmith from awhile back, posted by Mike in 2020: https://hawaiifiveo.org/forum/showth...me-Coopersmith

Here were the episodes he wrote:

    Season 1
    Samurai

    Season 2
    Just Lucky, I Guess
    A Bullet for McGarrett
    Blind Tiger

    Season 3
    NONE

    Season 4
    Highest Castle, Deepest Grave
    Wednesday, Ladies Free
    3,000 Crooked Miles to Honolulu
    For a Million, Why Not?
    Didn't We Meet at Murder?

    Season 5
    Death is Company Policy
    Death on Tantalus Mountain
    Chain of Events
    I'm a Family Crook, Don't Shoot!
    Here Today... Gone Tonight
Will the Real Mr. Winkler Please Die?

    Season 6
    The Sunday Torch
    Murder is a Taxing Affair
Why Wait Till Uncle Kevin Dies?
    Murder With a Golden Touch
    Killer at Sea

    Season 7
    Steal Now -- Pay Later
    Welcome to Our Branch Office
Presenting... In the Center Ring... Murder
    Diary of a Gun

    Season 8
    Murder: Eyes Only
    McGarrett is Missing
    Death's Name is Sam
    Retire in Sunny Hawaii... Forever
    Loose Ends Get Hit
    Anatomy of a Bribe

    Season 9
    Nine Dragons
    Assault on the Palace

    Seasons 10-12
    NONE

He did not write after season 9, for reasons I don't know.

Many of these are in my favorite 20 episodes.

Also, notice he really didn't write many dud episodes, which is equally important!

    RIP Jerome Coopersmith

An episode written by Coopersmith and directed by Michael O'Herlihy was always the best combination on Five-O.

His writing was awesome. Always a fun episode to watch if Coopersmith had a hand in it.
