Thread: Riddles at 50 years

50 years ago tonight, CBS aired S07E19 – "And The Horse Jumped Over The Moon".

The heroin trade has been locked of the islands. Therefore, smugglers must get creative in moving Horse in. You don't get more creative than skydiving out of a private airplane.

Ed Harris plays Bernie Ross, a pilot and criminal mastermind. He flies supplies between Honolulu and Kauai but apparently that was boring and not making enough money. He teams up with Kevin Caulder (Bruce Boxleitner) and his girlfriend Laurie Benedict (Jo Ann Harris). Caulder is the sky diver in all this. He sends out a grappling hook from the airplane to snag the package that has been dropped by a boat prior to docking in Oahu. Caulder then takes it and jumps from the plane – no one is the wiser.

However, Ross is dealing with some bigwigs who aren't interested in all the games. They run a test on the trio with a fake package, which incenses Caulder. Meanwhile, Five-O gets wind of the scheme thanks to a snitch (E.H. Marc Baxley) needing a major fix. Before he can spill the beans, though, he's killed in an intentional drive-by. Five-O investigates his murder and discover the trio.

When the real package is picked up, Caulder betrays Laurie and Ross by jumping from the airplane. Danno and the rest of Five-O arrest Ross and Laurie upon landing while McGarrett, after following Caulder in a helicopter, catches the skydiver after a rough landing.

Mr. Mike does a much better job than I do when covering these episodes. His review is here: https://www.fiveohomepage.com/5-0log7.htm#164

Not one of my favorite episodes but it's okay. It reminds me of my last military job, especially when ATC is watching Ross on a typical Kauai run. That was similar to what I did before I retired. But I digress.

One scene that gets me is toward the end when Laurie opens one of the packets. She tastes the goods and shares with Bernie as he's flying! What the heck!!!?? I know it's a small amount, but that's just not safe! Again, I digress.

Regardless, Happy 50th, “And The Horse Jumped Over The Moon”!!

Gotta ask the question - what does Riddles at 50 mean in this case? I don’t recall any riddles in this episode. Lol.

Also aside from some cool skydiving shots I always found this one rather dull. Drug smuggling episodes have never been a favorite with me. Follow the White Brick Road was a similar one that followed a drug smuggling pipeline.
